I got some of that flea treatment that goes between the cats shoulder blades. It’s pricey but so worth it. My cats have a 3 months supply and I am sure they appreciate not having to wear a flea collar.
Thank you for checking in on me. I have a good metal flea comb and haven’t seen any critters yet.

The info you provided is especially valuable where you wrote: “Helps save money on repairs: Homeowners are known to have to shell out hundreds of thousands of dollars in repairs to fix structural damage caused by termites, ants and roaches. With proper, timely pest and rodent control, homeowners can save the money and hassle.”
You should also add that chipmunks can borrow under the foundation of your house and cause structural damage. We had a chipmunk hole about 2 feet away from the house. I knew it was a chipmunk that made the hole because I put an empty bait station right at the hole and the next day when I looked out the window a chipmunk was sitting on top of the empty bait station and scurried into that hole in the ground! The exterminator filled the 4 bait stations and put them around my house’s foundation and said their company guaranteed them 100 percent effective. He gave me a key and said to check in about 3 weeks to see if the bait was gone and then they would bring me more bait. I had to call my exterminator because I couldn’t find any bait on-line that would take care of chipmunks.
Thanks for all of your helpful information.

Thanks for teaching us how to control fleas. In my case it worked very well. When there were many I gave my cat a shower once a week. Now to maintain some routines I do it once a month. Luckily she doesn’t give much trouble when I shower her but afterwards she doesn’t look at my eyes for a while. But not for long. So we can say fleas can be controlled.

We had got fleas because our cat got outside just for a couple of min. He brought fleas back with him. Thanks to this site for helping us get them back in control, we tried things that was to no help and had used salt that helped some but we had to do a deep cleaning with a cleaning machine. We used spray, homemade flea traps and it helped some but would like to thank you all for the advice and the newsletter we got. Once again thank you from us all here my 2 little girls that’s 1 and 2 isn’t getting bit no more and the cat also say thanks a bunch.

Hi Jacob, Mahalo for having this site! I can’t wait to get your newsletter. We just found out we had fleas when I watered the dang backyard. If they were on my 3 dogs, I never knew it. I never gotten bit until I watered the backyard. I need to find out how to rid my entire house and dogs of these pesky varmints. I just been diagnosed with leukemia so my immune system is compromised and I am taking care of my 85 yr old Mother. My husband is taking a more “if we don’t see any, I (he) must have killed them all by squishing them”, but he’s not the one getting bit. Mahalo nui loa so much!

I have fleas didn’t know it till I thought it was too late but I see there’s help here. My problem is I’m a hoarder but not as bad as on tv. I have a lot of stuff packed up all over but not any dirty places I have 4 dogs and my ex husband that lives in the spare bedroom of my trailer house he has abestos and is on o2 24/7 with a consetrer in the living room so I have no carpet to speak of. It’s a 1978 trailer so I’m trying to do this the natural way to pertik him with his breathing. Never even knew I had fleas till our aid figured it out with me so they are all small and all of course sleep with me and oh yeah I have been to the feed store here for flea stuff and inf and talked with the bug people which told me to get rid of everything and I’m trying. I’m also disabled but no excuse. I think they got them when they got out of the gate, other dogs run here. So long story, please forgive. Using clove cinnamon cedar oil spray seems to help but not getting them all. Limited budget but my babies are worth it. Please help and I’m sure signing up for your newsletter best inf I’ve found. Found bites on my arms but not sure it’s from the oil and spraying the dogs. Thanks everyone.

Thanks for your information and support! The encouragement of reading your site and comments from others helped me deal with what turned out ot be a rather small infestation in our bedroom. After several days of multiple bites while sleeping we got a light/sticky paper flea trap, which garnered only 3 fleas, while the glowing light disturbed our sleep. So we went on the attack: thoroughly vacuumed the carpet, pillows, mattress, teddy bears; washed all the bedding and then turned the flatiron up to high and slowly ran it over the top of the mattress, with special attention to the crevisses to fry whatever was lurking there. Then did applications of baking soda on the carpet, and vacuumed thoroughly 2 days later (have a vacuum that gathers stuff into a plastic tube, so we could check and verify we were getting dead fleas (magnifying glass came in handy!), and reapplied. Also repeated the ironing of the bed.. After about 3 weeks of that we now appear to be flea free for more than a week.
Thanks again for encouragement and support!

Hi Jacob you’re doing a great job, I wouldn’t know half the things I know now if it wasn’t for your website :) my situation was really bad! I got given a scratch post off a friend and it turned out it was a home for fleas!! At first it wasn’t so bad, but when it got hotter they got out of control. I got myself a flea kit that included the foggers, used them and spray every three days. Seems to be working along with the hoover too. Still getting bitten but not as bad. Just trying to work out how to get rid of them permanently. My little cat doesn’t go out, so that helps. Really upset me how we are suffering all because someone gave me a flea infested scratch post! But thanks to you and you’re helpful tips and tricks I’m getting rid of them slowly :) keep up the work!!

Hello Jacob, I honestly can say your site and you are a godsend to me. I never had indoor pets till this year and they ended up having fleas when we got them. I am new to this situation and my feet and legs got bit up really bad the first night we found out we had them. I have now found out that I am allergic to flea bites and your suggestion about the baking soda worked better than the prescription drugs they put me on. We did what you recommended and finally we are flea free. I will keep doing what I have to so they stay gone and have recommended your site to friends going through the same thing. Thank you so much and God Bless You.

How did you use the baking powder or baking soda?
Jayne Soares says
I would love to know how to use the baking soda to rid my bedrooms and family room of fleas. I have two cats and a dog. The dog is the only outside pet, but I know the seas will go to the other animals. I am waking up with horrible bites and I believe I am allergic. To them. I have been using an Oct remedy for the itching but it isn’t working. Just wanted to rid the animals and my home of the pests. Thank you so much.

Jacob I really really want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart , I would have never thought that fleas were my problem until I started researching and found your link tbh I thought I was going crazy as everyone else seemed to voice so clearly as I was the only one being eaten alive from my feet all the way to the top of my head my family had me believing that all the bites on my body were my nerves and my head itching was dandruff I was at a loss I had absolutely no idea of what I was looking for or where to start sure I had heard of fleas but only on animals never on people so without saying a word to anyone without saying a word I quickly began cleaning and doing laundry and setting bombs vacuuming and spraying everything in sight making sure to follow everyone of the wtepe exactly as you had said to do them without my family knowing as they already thought I was out of my mind. Within three days I wasn’t getting bitten anymore and actually starting to feel good again then I started thinking to myself how did I get fleas we don’t own a pet so I started my investigation where did these fleas come from well my children were grown and didn’t own pets and we only had one friend who owned a dog but he didn’t have fleas I racked my didn’t for weeks as if I slowed down on cleaning I was getting bit again then one night while bowling. I found where they were coming from. An older gentleman that bowled with us took in stray cats which had fleas they were on his jacket next to my own. A word of caution pay attention to your surroundings as you never know what’s in store when you can’t see the little pests but to everyone out there Jacob really has done his homework there for myself and my home are flea free forever thanks again Jacob for all your research.

I have found a fantastic cure for itching flea bites it is completely natural and can be bought in herbalist shops the name is CALENDULA. I used it the first time having suffered weeks of torment and WOW! It worked like a charm, I haven’t itched once since, it is a natural product and is in a cream form.
Try it, good luck to you all.

Thanks Jacob, I have tried the baking soda and salt, it has worked. I also use the hydrocortisone cream for the itching that has helped with the bites, and the Aloe Vera plant was really good it took the itching away fast. I also bought my dog the cap star pills and started giving that to my dog, it seems to be working great! He’s scratching less now. I’m washing my laundry in hot water and vacuuming. I still have some fleas that I need to get rid off, but so far I’m not getting a lot of bites from the fleas. I will continue using these good ideas to take care of the fleas and the bites. It’s a relief. Thanks.

I used the baking soda/salt mixture and left it on the floors for a week. Then vacuumed it up and had GREAT success in removing the fleas. They are horrendous this year. Very hard to get rid of. I have never had fleas like this before where they infest the house. I worked really hard in treating my pets and ridding my house. It’s finally working! I vacuum 1-3x a day, flea comb my dog (who has flea treatment on him), washed everything and have been extremely consistent. I love the information and am going to continue to receive my emails! Thank you!

Thank you very much for the informations provided on your site. I would also like to help other readers by suggesting them to use bitter neem leaves for taking baths and also making paste out of the bitter neem leaves and apply on the flea bite spot. It not only removes the itching but also helps in lightening the scars. If anyone has further queries regarding the neem ointment, let me know and I’ll be happy to help.

First and foremost, thank you for all your help! It’s been a weird experience having fleas and not having one pet in or around the house. We, my two boys, wife and I first noticed the fleas I know right where they came from, my mom’s. She owns five inside dogs and we visit frequently so we must’ve brought the fleas from them right? Wrong, she uses the best flea repellent on her “babies” and home, so where? As I was leaving the house a couple weeks ago I caught a glimpse in my rearview mirror of an adult cat running under our house as I was headed to town. So upon further investigation I realized she had her litter under our house. BINGO! With much regret I called animal control to help rid the main source and then your helpful sight helped get the ones that had taken over our house! Thank you so much and keep up the great work!

You are much appreciated! I wrote earlier of my losing both my cats – a week apart. (Ages 9 and 10). Lab results from vets indicated they were both extremely anemic. Who knew? My gawd, I had NO idea. I won’t get a new pet for a while – in the meantime, I have resorted to the Orkin man and to reading up on what you have to say. Thank you!

OMG! I think I will get through this. This is the best resource I’ve found. I went and bought a new Hoover vacuum. My old one wasn’t doing enough. I think we still will have to bomb because still seeing the little baby fleas but actually making progress now. We treated outside and our dog. I bought several flea collars. I get them in the vacuum, DustBuster and around Max’s neck. I’ve been running the vacuum every day because they were coming up from the Borax I laid down. I’m not getting bitten as much (those baby ones are still getting me though). I also used my steamer using the Bissell Eucalyptus and Mint water. I guess I will now bomb the house to kill those babies off. Stay tuned…

Thank you Mr, I appreciate your “road map”. After a few months, the cat is still itching but only very few fleas are detected. I will be looking for something to calm the itching. The fleas came with this kitten and it has not been flea free for a long time. It has not been a good experience. Since you provided a check list for handling flea problems, it definitely made it more manageable. Many Kudos!

Many thanks for your good advice. I realize now that I wasn’t infected with fleas, but had developed a skin allergy to the plant I was dealing with. Possibly spores, or something else. Anyway, if nothing else, I gave the house a thorough cleaning, and even decorated under the stairs, which I had neglected to do before! So a silver lining.

I really liked all the information. I’m trying to decide which scalp treatment to use. How do you know if they get in your bed clothes. What do you recommend us to do first. I’ve also been using blue-emu cream on places I have on my neck, face and shoulders. I use it 3 times daily. I’m sure I’ve had them in my scalp, although I don’t think I have them now, but I would still like to treat my scalp. I greatly appreciate getting your newsletter. Thanks, Jacob and wait for your response and newsletter.

Regular dishwashing soap — and regular shampoo — kills fleas. So if they get in your hair, just shampoo. New ones can always get back on your head, but a daily shampoo takes care of that.
Happy to learn about vinegar treatment–my son gets them on his socks. I use Advantage on my cats, but this time it failed, so I’ve been flea combing 9 cats and dropping the fleas in a bucket of soapy water. My area is quite humid and when the humidity reaches a certain level the fleas hatch, usually if it’s going to rain… but today it’s like a sauna outdoors… I know I have to bomb the house.

I have been working to eradicate a flea infestation in our motorhome. We recently parked in a field full of rabbits and fleas. Imagine my surprise when we discovered this morning that it’s not fleas! First I would like to say thank you all so very much for all the free advice and for sharing your experiences. Having flea issues in your home is bad enough but embarrassing to admit also. I just recently started reading some of the great information that has been posted. I have dogs inside my home and a host of cats of my own outside along with feral cats in every shape, size and color. Lol I’ve had dogs inside my home for decades and until recently I’ve not had to deal with any problems concerning fleas. I’ve always been able to keep the “demonic” varmints under control. I live in the South and we have just had a colder than normal winter with snow and ice. I thought that extreme cold would kill off the fleas and other pests. How wrong I was! My dogs have recently begun having issues with fleas and they are definitely coming from the feral cats. I have managed to somewhat “tame” several of them enough to get flea powder and a natural flea spray containing clove oil on them. My problem is with the ones I can’t treat. I’m hesitant about putting edible treatment on their food because I’m afraid that the younger ones will consume too much and also there are pregnant cats that come to eat every day. I have placed several different bowls out and spaced them apart but they all seem to want to “graze” around and share bowls. I read a lady’s post earlier about using lavender and lemongrass oil on her skin to deter fleas. Readers, keep in mind to research the use of essential oils before applying, diffusung, or cooking with essential oils. I started using a few of the oils last year and some of the websites do not tell you to use carrier oils mixed with nondiluted oils. I had a problem using tea tree essential oil that I purchased at the Health Food store on my dog. The employee knew that I had planned on using it for treating ringworm on a puppy (mother dog brought it inside from my yard to the pup, again a feral cat problem). The tea tree oil, undiluted without a carrier oil, burned the coat and skin on the puppy. Nightmare to say the least! This being said, please respect and be very cautious when using essential oils (the pup recovered just fine). Neem oil, diluted or purchased as a hydrosol worked best. I have been checking my dogs for fleas before they even come inside my home. I use Comfortis tablets with some of my dogs and the lavender essential oil, diluted with either olive oil or grapeseed oil on the others. The ratio of dilution that I have found works without issues is 40:10, which is 40 drops of carrier and 10 of lavender. Don’t let anyone tell you to apply undiluted essential oils of any type on your dogs! I do not recommend using essential oils on cats or kittens. Ok, if anyone cares to give me feedback on helping with flea issues on the feral cats I would really appreciate it, thank you in advance.

Hello
I currently have a flea infestation in my home. I bought live flea traps made by Victor and they are great. I have caught a lot of fleas with these traps so far. I am also doing other things as well to protect us from getting flea bites. I am using lemongrass oil and lavender oil on my skin and it does really help to stop the fleas from biting you. I really enjoyed looking at this site, it has a lot of good information one can use to get help with this horrible problem. Thanks again. Kathy

One time, back in the eighties, I was at a lucrative hotel in los Angeles, with my mate at the time. I started itching uncontrollably and asked him to look on me to see what was biting me. He said he couldn’t find anything, so we ended up at the hospital. The doctor said we had human fleas. The room was infested! So was the car and our bodies! It was the worst experience of my life! Calamine lotion and hot bathwater was what relieved us of the malady. More hot water people!

I also purchased the Victor flea traps. They work great! I just remind myself to change the pad every 30 days or so. They never are full but I think they are more effective if changed in that span of time. Also not too expensive if purchased on Amazon.

For months I had been trying to get rid of Mosquitos and was afraid to go outside because I have about 25+ bites on my body- until I caught a jumping flea today on my sofa!!! I’m completely traumatized because I’ve had an awful experience with it when I lived in an apartment. And they love me. I need to eat more garlic. Your articles helped me confirm what I have are flea bites and not mosquito bites. I’ve ordered a flea trap in hopes to catch them all soon.
