So I recently noticed my cat would be furiously biting scratching and grooming himself uncontrollably. When I looked I saw a few fleas but decided to start cleaning like crazy as I know they spread quickly. I got rid of his old bedding and vacuumed profusely. I gave him a bath with tea tree shampoo and noticed some fleas dropping dead. Figured that was it but he was still scratching like crazy so over the next three days I tried the dawn and it seemed as if there were endless fleas dropping off and even when combing, still picking some off as well. When I noticed he still was scratching I used the mixture of dawn and vinegar and it seemed all the small ones left were dropping off him. So over a course of four days my cats has had six baths and only the dawn and white distilled vinegar seemed to finally rid him of all fleas and I’ve had him secluded in my bathroom made of white tile so when they keep dropping dead I just wipe them up and toss them down the toilet. So I believe the safest and less harmful ways of getting them off my cat is with home remedies rather than any flea or tick shampoo and also got him a hartz flea collar which seems to help him from them reaching his ears and him scratching so hard he makes himself bleed.May 8, 2018 at 5:52 AM #81620
How much dawn and vinegar to make shampoo for fleas?August 21, 2018 at 2:44 AM #84658
Can you use the vinegar/dawn solution spray on cats without rinsing it off? I have 2 cats who are very sensitive to topical flea treatments and absolutely will not allow bathing. I have a total of 9 animals so if I find fleas on one animal it puts me into cleaning overdrive.August 24, 2018 at 3:41 AM #84708
Does the Dawn and vinegar treatment work for dogs too? Do you have to use Dawn specifically or will any liquid dish soap work also? What proportions do you mix the Dawn and vinegar? Can you leave it on the animal or have to rinse it off? After application is it more effective to leave it on say 10 or 15 minutes before rinsing?
Also, I’ve noticed fleas jumping on me. I’ve washed all bedding both mine and the dogs, sprayed the apt with a well known brand combination bed bug/flea spray, sprayed down all upholstered furniture, shampooed the dogs with flea shampoo, applied a one month topical liquid to the dogs neck. Still I notice the dogs still biting and scratching. The apts property don’t treat the outside grass. I am a senior citizen very low income and don’t have the finances to purchase flea preventative monthly and pay for vet visits. I’m doing everything I can but still can’t seem to keep them off me and my bed.October 9, 2018 at 7:27 AM #85587
What ratio of dawn and vinegar should I use for my cat which is a BIG cat and our new puppy which may be 5 lbs (she’s a chihuahua less than 10 lbs maybe 5 lbs). My cat is probably twice the size of this puppy.
Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance.
