I’ve been fighting fleas since last year on our indoor cat & still no clue how he got them. We have tried baths, vet flea med for cats, powders, bombs (1x), vacuuming and are still using flea traps. But they keep coming back anyways. I have four kids (2 of them 3 yr olds) and they are getting bit too. My husband and I are bit up and at end of rope here. Considering putting the poor cat out of his misery simply because we can’t seem to get rid of this! And he is so miserable too 🙁 I am begging for any help here!!!! Thanks.August 19, 2014 at 1:44 PM #2630
I have just taken ownership of a great dane (lucky me!). Trouble is he has fleas. My cat has had fleas in the past and my scarred ankles are testiment to this. Today I brought 2 cat flea collars (yes, with the little bell) and put them on my ankles! I hope it works, will keep you updated.June 19, 2018 at 5:50 AM #83222
Have you been treating the house too? Our two cats got infested with fleas, we found out when we kept finding flea dirt all over the place. We went to pets at home and they recommended a stay kill spray for the house. Hoovered the whole house, sprayed the stuff while the cats were outside and washed literally everything on 60 degrees.
We were using frontline on our pets but after a trip to the vets he advised advocate and wow what a difference, killed the fleas pretty much instantly and it’s much more effective. We continued hoovering and even sprayed the house again just to be sure.
It’s over 3 weeks on now and unfortunately this morning spotted some more flea dirt in the bed, first time since this treatment! But we can advocate the cats again in a few days thank goodness. Until then, epic washing and hoovering spree again! All the cleaning is exhausting and so time consuming though. However we don’t have the need to spray the house again as apparently the spray is effective for up to a year! Just hate sitting here on the fabric sofa thinking that there may be little creatures all over it again… will see how it goes. The spray even had flies dropping dead all over the house so surely nothing else can survive of the parasite variety!
Just wanted to share my advice and story here – maybe it can help you too. Best of luck getting rid once and for all! Wish we all knew the source of where these things are coming from so we could eliminate the source!August 25, 2018 at 2:47 AM #84724
What was the name of the spray you used that is supposed to last up to a year? Also what was the name of the stuff the vet gave you or other stuff you tried on the dogs? Just trying to get a list going to see how much treatments cost and what i can afford at this point.January 29, 2019 at 4:42 AM #88316
