I went to the beach over the weekend and noticed a bunch of bites on the back of my calf two days later. From looking at other people’s pictures, I’m pretty sure they’re sand flea or sand fly bites. Can it take several days for bites to appear or is it more likely I’ve been bitten by something in my house? I haven’t seen any fleas (or bed bugs) in the house and neither my husband nor son has any bites. Thanks for your help!July 18, 2014 at 2:13 AM #2439
Usually the bites show up almost immediately, but some people have a delayed reaction to the bites (also called a delayed hypersensitivity reaction). Such a reaction can take days to develop, so this might be what you are experiencing.
If you have any pets in your home, I would run them through with a flea comb to check for any signs of fleas.July 18, 2014 at 6:21 AM #2442

I just got back from Puerto Rico, I went to a beach two days ago where there were pesty little flies. I put bug spray and didn’t stay long. I am back home and woke up today with itchy round pink, I guess bites all over my legs and a few on my arms. I’m reading that sandflies rarely bite top part of body unless you are lying down. I never even sat on the sand. It was so annoying I left. My question is, can sandfly bites appear two days later. I have sensitive skin everything shows up right away on my skin.
