How long have you been letting the DE sit? I am currently dealing with a flea issue and I have sprinkled DE on all my carpets and let it sit overnight… then sweep it up the next morning. I have sprinkled with DE about every two days. I also sprinkle the upholstered furniture with a 50-50 mix of baking soda and salt… the combo will have an effect similar to DE but I didn’t feel it would be as harmful to the furniture. I spray my baseboards and hard to reach areas with a lemon mixture (put about 7 sliced lemons in about 4 cups of water, along with some sprigs of rosemary… bring to a boil for 5 minutes then let cool and set overnight… transfer to a spray bottle). I have also treated my pet with a collar and a spot-on topical. The other night I also ‘dusted’ my pet with some DE- it won’t harm them, just wear a mask yourself and if you can do it outside where you and your pet can get some fresh air, that would be best. I am currently only seeing about 1 live flea per day and I am told that they are the last ones dying off… as another measure, I called my vet and the tech there says she swears by a collar called Seresto… she has a ‘vet clinic cat’ that lives there… with the collar (about $55 but lasts for 8 months) she has NEVER seen a flea on her cat and now that’s the only thing she uses… hope this helps. Just keep up with the sweeping and if there are any blankets- toss in washer on hot… I’ve tossed throw pillows in the dryer… if you are diligent you can beat this!March 23, 2016 at 6:31 AM #47554
When it comes to treating the carpet and furniture use borax. My neighbor told me about it and it has something in it like fiberglass and slices up the fleas. Work believable well and is cheap. I use pet armor plus on my animals and buy large breed kind and split it between my two cats and small dog. Works well and costs less. They tell you to not use dog meds on cats. I used to volunteer for what used to be peninsula spray and neuter project and they are the ones who told me to do it that way to be cost efficient. The reason they tell you not to is to make more money. Anyways, spraying the yard is a great thing to do too. Good luck!! If you have any questions feel free to ask. I learned how to buy shots super cheap and give them myself. Saves ridiculous amounts of money. Robyn

Hertz didn’t work on my dog. I had gotten a 3 dose pack.. gave her a really good bath dried her off and applied.. the poor thing kept scratching. After 2 weeks I realized that the product was not going to work. I did something I probably shouldn’t; I applied another dose and not even that worked. Needless to say, I gave up on Hetrz.
I ordered Frontline plus, which came from the UK as Frontline Combo (I looked it up and it’s the same product as the Frontline Plus).. within a day my dog stopped the scratching.
I would never recommend Hertz to anyone. Just order the Frontline online for much cheaper and get something that works. Good luck!August 22, 2016 at 4:23 AM #52433

I treated my cat with Frontline Plus last week after seeing flea dirt on his bed. Now a week later I am finding live fleas on him. Should i retreat? I am not sure i got the first dose down to his skin.September 23, 2016 at 6:28 AM #54229

I love this!!!!
I found a few fleas on one dog and one on the other. I re-created early, per vets permission, and capstared everywhere day for a week. Cats were clean and I set out flea water traps with soap & lights and those have been clear as well. Now I have been vacuuming really well for a week, everyday. Tuesday we are scheduled to have our carpets clean so that will help.
With the pets ALWAYS treated, and how much I vacuum anyway, I think my issue is controlled.
Having horrible anxiety does not help lol
I think many people have issues because they do not treat pets accurately and on time. If you have pets that visit outside, they will get fleas now and again. That is why topics are important and frequent vacuuming.
I always think, if fleas were truly that awful, why do we have pets? And how were fleas manageable when there were no treatment? Everyone lived lol
Anywhere, I love the vacuum and I don’t think carpet treatments are necessary.October 13, 2016 at 2:45 AM #57532
I am so glad to see this. I have horrible anxiety and this flea thing is getting to me lol I almost avoid my cats because I am afraid I will carry them to the parts of my apartment I have already atomic bombed 😉 I don’t allow my cats in either of our bedrooms anymore. I have leather furniture but most of the apartment is carpet. I am using DE on the carpet and the one or two places they frequently sit. I have Frontline, but I’ve heard the Advantage 11 is better, so I ordered that as well. I have Adams carpet and upholstery spray to use in between the DE. GAH!October 19, 2016 at 2:45 AM #57658
After applying DE on the mattress, how long before I can vacuum? If longer than 1 day, can I cover it with sheets and sleep on it?October 19, 2016 at 2:46 AM #57776
O.K. now how long before the fleas, eggs, dirt die. After the drops are put on. Never mind all the other stuff, we need this answer!December 15, 2016 at 8:11 AM #61887

Wished I had read this before treating my cats with hartz. Now it’s a waiting gameJanuary 25, 2017 at 1:56 AM #63523
Hi, I’ve used frontline and worked every time. I’m trying pet armor hope it works as good.May 11, 2017 at 4:10 AM #68224
I just discovered that my cat has fleas. I know I should get her some topical flea medication, but I’m wondering if that will even kill all the fleas or if I’d be better off taking her to the vet for a flea dip first. Bathing her myself is not an option as she unfortunately has to be sedated to be bathed. She’s 8 lbs of fur around water. But because I know she’ll have to be sedated for a flea dip, I didn’t really want to put her under that stress. I just hate seeing her so itchy. Please help, would topical flea meds be enough to rid her of all her fleas or does she need a dip from the vet too?June 6, 2017 at 7:52 AM #70179
I’ve been using Revolution for both my dog and cats for years now. Works great and they both also prevent heartworms and ear mites. The dog version also repels ticks, as well as kills / treats mange from scabies mites. The cat version also treats and controls roundworms and hookworms. Really great stuff I swear by!June 6, 2017 at 8:22 AM #70510

I have one dog, two cats, two birds and a gerbil. And my daughter is allergic to fleas. I have to vacuum a lot and don’t let them into her bedroom or mine. I bomb the house every few months. I have tried Hartz, doesn’t work. I do use Frontline now. It took a few days to notice them stop scratching. And I give them regular flea baths once a week. I do spray off furniture and change bedding quite often, especially downstairs where they’re usually at. Eventually with hard work I don’t see them anymore or have a problem. It takes a lot of work and dedication. Just make sure all animals are out of the house when you bomb. I even bomb the garage. I used the good name brand, not the cheap version of the bombs.June 13, 2017 at 1:26 AM #70718
I am a breeder and you will find that you must eliminate the problem from its source.. if you don’t continually kill hatching fleas then all the flea remedies in the world are ineffective. I use nitenpyram which is a capstar (generic equivalent).. I recommend it.. I have 9 furrbabies and NO ONE has fleas just because of this amazing product.. you can get it on ebay and amazon but it cost more than buying in bulk. Try it, fleas are dead on the animal in 1 hour or less, keeps killing for days…June 20, 2017 at 12:27 PM #71000
I used Bio Active topical on my cat three days ago but I’m still finding fleas on him, shouldn’t it have already killed the adult fleas by now? I’m so frustrated.
